Petroleum Engineering Department, NED University successfully conducted a structured Fire Evacuation Drill aimed at transforming theoretical safety knowledge into practical response. The activity began with an organized evacuation from classrooms, where students were guided through designated emergency routes towards the assembly area, followed by a systematic headcount to ensure accountability and procedural clarity.
The drill was conducted under the valuable guidance of Dr. Javed Haneef, Dr. Fareed Iqbal Siddiqui, and Sir Mubarak Ali, who highlighted the critical importance of emergency preparedness, particularly in engineering and petroleum-related environments where risk management is fundamental.
An interactive discussion session was led by Dr. Javed Haneef, focusing on the relevance of fire safety within the petroleum industry. Key technical and practical aspects were covered in sequence:
• The concept of the Fire Triangle and fundamentals of combustion
• Classes of fire — appropriate response and actions to avoid
• Importance of emergency routes and clearly marked assembly areas
• Role of safety signages and fire alarm systems
• Headcount procedure and coordinated evacuation protocol
• Decision-making mindset required in high-risk operational settings
The session concluded with the announcement of forming a dedicated student safety committee. Selected students will undergo structured training to ensure efficient coordination and leadership during emergency situations.
